For a period that starts mid-week, so weekly overtime is correct.

How to use

  1. Pick the first day of the pay period. Fourteen rows appear, split into two work weeks.
  2. Enter times and unpaid break minutes. Each week shows its own subtotal and overtime.
  3. Add a rate, choose overtime rules and export or print.

Worked example: 44 hours then 36 hours

Week one: 11 hours Monday to Thursday, 44 hours. Week two: 9 hours Monday to Thursday, 36 hours. The period total is 80 hours.

Under the Federal preset week one has 40 regular and 4 overtime hours; week two is all regular. At $20.00: 76 × $20.00 = $1,520.00 plus 4 × $30.00 = $120.00, gross $1,640.00. Averaging the two weeks to 40 each would be wrong and underpay the overtime.

Frequently asked questions

Why are the two weeks totalled separately?

Federal and state overtime laws use a fixed 7-day work week. Hours in week two cannot offset overtime earned in week one.

Can I change which day the week starts?

Yes, in Options. The period rows regroup to match.

What if my period does not start on the work week start?

Enter hours already worked in the straddling week in Options so the weekly threshold is applied correctly.

Does it support lunch breaks?

Enter unpaid break minutes per day, or use the Punch Clock Calculator for break punches.

Can I export both weeks to Excel?

Yes. The Excel and CSV downloads include every day, week subtotals and the pay summary.

Is there a bi-weekly template?

Yes, see the matching Excel, Google Sheets and Word templates below the calculator.
