How to use
- Type each day's start and end time. Smart entry understands 915, 9:15, 915a and 21:15, and tabs forward automatically after four digits.
- Enter unpaid break minutes per day, or open Options to deduct a lunch automatically on long shifts.
- Add your hourly rate. Totals, overtime and gross pay update on every keystroke. Print, export to CSV or Excel, or copy a share link.
Worked example: A 42-hour week in California
Maria works Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch, then four hours on Saturday. Each weekday is 9.5 hours on the clock minus 0.5 hours of lunch, or 9 hours worked.
With the California preset, each weekday has 8 regular hours and 1 hour of daily overtime, which is 5 overtime hours for the week. Saturday's 4 hours are regular, bringing regular hours to 44. Because the weekly cap is 40, the last 4 regular hours convert to weekly overtime. Total: 40 regular hours and 9 overtime hours.
At $20.00 per hour that is $800.00 regular pay plus 9 × $30.00 = $270.00 overtime, a gross of $1,070.00. The engine never counts an hour twice: daily overtime is removed first, then weekly overtime applies only to what is left.
Frequently asked questions
How do I enter times quickly?
Type digits only. 830 becomes 8:30 AM, 1715 becomes 5:15 PM, and 530p becomes 5:30 PM. In 12-hour mode without a suffix, 7 to 11 is read as AM and 12 to 6 as PM. Add a or p to override. After four digits the cursor jumps to the next field.
Does it handle shifts that cross midnight?
Yes. If the out time is earlier than the in time the calculator assumes the shift ends the next day, so 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM is 8 hours. An identical in and out time counts as zero hours unless you mark the day as a 24-hour shift in Options.
How is overtime calculated?
Pick a preset in Options. Federal pays 1.5x after 40 hours in a fixed 7-day work week. California adds 1.5x after 8 hours in a day, 2x after 12, and the seventh-consecutive-day rule. Alaska and Nevada use a daily 8-hour threshold, Colorado 12 hours. Daily overtime is removed first and weekly overtime only applies to the remaining regular hours, so nothing is counted twice.
What does rounding do?
Rounding applies to each punch, never to the total. The 15-minute option follows the 7-minute rule: 8:07 rounds down to 8:00 and 8:08 rounds up to 8:15. The unrounded total is always shown next to the rounded one.
Are paid breaks deducted?
No. Only unpaid break minutes are subtracted from the shift. If you enable auto-deduct, the configured minutes are only removed on days that meet the threshold and have no unpaid break entered, and a note tells you when that happened.
Is my data saved or uploaded?
Your entries are auto-saved in this browser only, under a versioned key, so they are there when you come back. Share links compress the whole time card into the URL itself. Nothing is sent to a server.
How do I print or export?
Print produces a one-page timesheet with name, period, daily rows, totals and signature lines. Choose Save as PDF in the print dialog for a PDF. CSV and Excel buttons download the daily table with totals.
Can I use 24-hour (military) time?
Switch Clock format to 24h in Options, or use the Military Time Card Calculator page which opens in 24-hour mode. Entries such as 0730 and 1645 are then read literally.
