How to use
- Type the in and out punch for each day. Add a break with its start and end punch and mark it paid or unpaid.
- Turn on "same breaks every day" to copy day one's breaks, or auto-deduct to subtract a fixed lunch when no break was entered.
- Pick overtime rules and a rate in Options. Fix any red validation message, then print or export.
Worked example: An 8.5-hour shift with two breaks
Monday: in 7:00 AM, out 3:30 PM. Breaks: 9:00 to 9:10 AM marked paid, 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM unpaid. The shift is 8 hours 30 minutes on the clock.
Only the 30-minute unpaid lunch is subtracted; the 10-minute paid rest stays in. Hours worked are 8:00. Repeated Monday to Friday the week is 40 hours with no overtime, and at $19.00 an hour gross pay is $760.00.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between paid and unpaid breaks?
Unpaid breaks are subtracted from hours worked. Paid breaks are shown but never deducted. Under federal law short breaks of 5 to 20 minutes must be paid.
What do the validation errors mean?
A break must start and end inside the shift and breaks cannot overlap. The error names the break so you can fix it; invalid breaks are still deducted as entered, so clear the error before relying on the total.
Does it handle overnight shifts?
Yes. An out time earlier than the in time ends the next day, and breaks are placed relative to the shift start, so a 11:50 PM to 12:10 AM break in a 10 PM to 6 AM shift is 20 minutes.
How does auto-deduct work?
When a day has no unpaid break and meets the threshold, the configured minutes are subtracted and a note appears on that day. Days with an unpaid break entered are left alone.
Can I round punches?
Yes, to 5, 6, 10 or 15 minutes. Rounding applies to every punch including break punches, never to totals.
Can I print a sheet for payroll?
Yes. Print gives a one-page sheet with daily hours, unpaid break minutes, totals and signatures.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. The sheet is saved in your browser only.
