How to use
- Enter the bill and tap a tip percent (or type your own).
- Set the number of people. Switch to unequal split to give someone a bigger share.
- Optionally tip on the pre-tax amount or round the total up to the next dollar.
Worked example: $86.40 bill, 18% tip, three people
The tip is 86.40 × 0.18 = $15.55 and the total $101.95. Split three ways: $33.99, $33.98, $33.98. The leftover cent goes to the first person so the shares add up exactly.
With "round total to $1" the total becomes $102.00 (tip $15.60) and each share is $34.00.
Frequently asked questions
How is the tip calculated?
Bill × tip percent ÷ 100, rounded to the nearest cent. 18% of $86.40 is $15.55.
How is the bill split exactly?
The total in cents is divided by the number of people and any leftover cents are given one each to the first people, so the shares always sum to the total.
Should I tip on the pre-tax amount?
Many people do. Enter the tax shown on the receipt and turn on pre-tax tipping; the tip is then based on the bill minus tax.
What does unequal split do?
Each person gets a share weight. Shares of 1, 1 and 2 give the third person half the bill.
Can I round so each person pays a whole dollar?
Yes, choose "per person to $1". The extra goes to the tip.
What is a normal tip in the US?
15% to 20% for table service; 18% is common. Counter service is often 10% or a flat amount.
Does it work without internet?
After the first visit it loads from cache, so it works in a restaurant with no signal.
